My name is Misbah Akhtar.  I’m a mum to three beautiful children and with a baby on the way, it’s a good thing I kissed any real sleep goodbye ages ago! Being a mum is tough, isn’t it? You have so much to contend with and so many things to juggle that you often forget about YOU. That’s where I come in; allow me to remind you – albeit with threats, nagging, or just good old fashioned encouragement, that you come first! A happy, confident mum makes the best mum.

I am an author, poet, blogger, agony aunt (to my friends) and human rights activist. In 2012 I launched Single Muslim Mums, an organization that empowers single Muslim mothers and provides them with support, whilst also battling the stigma attached to them.

I am a regular guest on the BBC Asian Network and appeared on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. I have also been featured in many online publications such as Pure Matrimony and Sisters Magazine.

I live and stand by the quote “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Life isn’t about being the best or competing with others; it’s about being content with who you are and what you have. There’s room enough in this world for us all!

“My passion is to inspire others through real life experiences; humor and lessons learned; but perhaps best of all, by just simply caring.”
