The question: how to achieve real happiness in life all day, every day. The answer? carry on reading to find out!
Happiness: a much sought after commodity that lurks in the shadows of our lives. Camouflaged so well that you have to peer into every nook and cranny to discover it.Why is happiness so elusive, how can we capture it and keep it for ourselves?
Happiness comes in many forms for me: basking in the warmth of the sun, gazing up into the sky, taking in the beauty of nature around me. It may sound very simplistic but I kid you not, it really works! Sunshine improves your mood by raising the levels of serotonin produced by the brain. Increasing my knowledge makes me happy: keeping my brain active makes me feel alive. This is especially because I’m always at home with the kids and I can feel my IQ dropping with each episode of ‘Ben and Holly’ that I’m forced to watch repeatedly. Intellectual activity increases satisfaction and gives pleasure as well.
I’m an advocate for personal development and growth: trying new things often makes life less mundane and tedious. The one thing about motherhood that I tire of is the routine. Same thing, same routine every day. There isn’t really the chance to be adventurous: I can’t stay out late, or go abroad on a whim. I have responsibilities and commitments towards my children. That’s where personal growth comes in. Trying new things and developing myself enables me to learn more about who I am and allows me to realise my full potential.
Finally, self care and meditation makes me happy. Having 4 kids means I barely find time for myself but I have to make it a priority. If I let myself and my health go it will have a knock on effect with the children. If I don’t pamper myself no- one else will. It doesn’t have to be in expensive lavish ways either: a cup of tea and a book whilst soaking my feet gives me that spa experience. Quiet meditation or reflection for 5 mins give me a sense of myself and mindfulness and also helps me feel less stressed.
I hope have given you some food for thought on how to achieve real happiness in life every day. Why don’t you write down what makes you happy and implement it?!
